Dusk Edition Mahindra Scorpio pickup based on Karoo’s range-topping S11 trim – shares similar engine specs and features
Mahindra has a strong presence in select countries outside India, especially in the lifestyle segment of passenger vehicles. The Indian utility vehicle maker has launched a limited edition model of the pickup Karoo called the Dusk which is aimed at tackling more hardcore off-road trails.
For context, the pickup Karoo is based on pickup truck derivatives of the Scorpio. The special edition of the Mahindra Scorpio based 4×4 pickup comes with a more rugged exterior with a dedicated off-road kit and an upgraded suspension setup.
Scorpio Dusk 4×4 – Spruced Up Exterior Styling
This limited-run variant is an extension of the Scorpio pickup’s range-topping double car S11 trim and has been specially designed for customers looking for a vehicle primarily for off-road use. It is offered with a 4×4 drivetrain as standard and rolled on 17-inch machined alloy wheels finished in black with silver detailing on the outer rim. These are sheathed with all-terrain tires with a very thick profile and wide cross-section.
The exterior of the pickup truck has been trimmed to provide a more rugged appearance with a very prominent all-black theme covered in a matte finish, which gives it a distinct appeal as compared to the standard model. The package also includes add-ons like steel-framed side steps, sturdy overhang fenders and styling bars on the rear load bay. It also gets a roller shutter door like the standard Karoo.
To enhance its rugged presence, Mahindra has added a special bull bar and a new set of bumpers that boast of a machined steel finish. In addition to this, the rear bumper doubles as a heavy-duty step-up trimmed with a non-slip diamond plate. It also has a mounting point for an additional heavy-duty recovery loop and high-lift jack. Both the front and rear bumpers have been designed with overlanding in mind.
Powder-coated steel bash plates at the front, black cladding around the wheel arches, 4×4 stickers and blue Karoo decals on the side door panels are some of the other styling highlights that give the pickup truck a bold appeal. The entire loading bay has been rubberized while the front bumper also gets a special set of fog lamps.
All that said, the limited-running Dusk Edition serves more function than fashion as its hardware has been upgraded to support hardcore trail bashing. This includes a tweaked suspension setup featuring new bushings, heavy-duty gas-filled shock absorbers and bespoke heavy-duty custom-made rear leaf springs. Despite these effects, the ground clearance remains the same at 210mm. This ensures extended off-roading prowess without affecting its on-road modalities.
Powering the Karoo Dusk is a familiar 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that kicks in 153 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. This motor is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox which sends power to all the four wheels via a 4WD system. The new special edition PikUp Karoo has been priced at R549,999 (approx INR 27.25 Lakh). Mahindra is working on the new Scorpio and its pickup version, which is expected to be launched next year.
