Once launched, the MG Astor is expected to be priced between Rs 9-15 lakh (ex-showroom).
MG Motor India last week revealed its upcoming C-segment compact SUV Astor. The SUV is essentially a petrol-powered derivative of the ZS EV, which is already on sale in India. However, the Astor is based on the facelifted ZS petrol which is currently available for sale in select international markets.
Test mules of this car have been spotted on Indian roads on several occasions over the past one year. The Astor is introduced in a segment that is dominated by compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos and new entrants like the Skoda Kushak. The MG Astor is expected to go on sale in India in the coming few weeks. Ahead of the launch, interesting new details have leaked via Rushlane Spylen member who wishes to remain anonymous.
The MG Astor for India will be 4323 mm long, 1809 mm wide and 1650 mm tall. Fully loaded, it will have a wheelbase of 2585 mm and a ground clearance of 154 mm. The turning radius is 5.1 meters while the fuel tank capacity is 45 liters.

Highlights of its exterior are on its front which includes an elaborate hexagonal grille inspired by cosmic lines and forms. The grille features a radial pattern that is centered over the epicenter of the entire front face while the tungsten steel electroplated material creates a distinct look like that of the sun. A total of 5 exterior color options are on offer – Red, White, Silver, Black and Orange.
MG will introduce two interior themes for the Astor, one of which is the ‘Dual Tone Sangria Red’ unique to the top end variant. Tuxedo Black interior will be available in other variants. Rear seat passengers will get arm rest with cup holder, which will have foldable flaps. The rear seats come with a 60:40 split.
The instrument cluster will have a 7-inch mid LCD screen. On the dashboard, it will feature a state-of-the-art 10.1-inch wide-angle infotainment system. Unlike Hector, which gets Gaana app, Astor will come with JioSaavn app for music/videos. There will be a total of 5 USB ports on the inside of the car. It gets a flat-bottom steering wheel with leather stitching.

Equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Highlights of the unveiling event mainly focused on the features to be offered with the upcoming SUV. The Astor is the first model from MG Motor to get a Car Concept Platform (CAAP) software that integrates technologies such as blockchain, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI). The carmaker also claims that the Astor is the first car in India to be fully equipped with an in-built AI assistant.
The personal AI assistant is designed by an American firm ‘Star Design’ and depicts human emotions and voices. The AI assistant can respond through Wikipedia with detailed information on every topic and provide the latest news, navigation details, weather reports, jokes, and more. This AI platform is powered by the i-Smart Hub offered in other MG cars as well.
iSmart Hub will provide add-on subscription services based on the demands of the user. The infotainment system comes with a Jio SIM that offers a 4G connectivity suite with IoT technology for access to real-time infotainment and telematics.
