MG Astor offers most segment-leading features among its closest rivals like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos
The latest entrant in the compact SUV space, MG Astor has been priced at Rs 9.78 lakh, ex-sh. The MG Astor was officially unveiled a few weeks back. As established earlier, the Astor ZS is the IC engine powered version of the EV which is already on sale in India. However, the former one sports an updated outfit compared to its battery-powered sibling.
MG Astor Prices (Starting) and Variants
The base petrol variant of MG Astor is priced at Rs 9.78 lakh, ex-sh. It comes with a lot of features which are not available with the rivals. Below is a detailed look at the features on offer with the base variant-Style of MG Astor.
MG is offering the Astor a whole bunch of class-leading gizmos in addition to the usual set of bells and whistles. The carmaker is the first in this segment to introduce ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistant System) with Level 2 autonomous features. It is also the first car in India to be offered with a Personalized Artificial Intelligence (AI) bot in the cabin.
Apart from the Style variant, MG Astor comes in Super, Smart and Sharp variants. These are also full of facilities. Bookings will open from October 21, but you can start your booking from today itself. Delivery will start in November. MG plans to deliver around 5,000 units of the Astor in 2021.
Talking about the price, the price of MG Astor Style MT is Rs 9.78 lakh. The price of MG Astor Super MT is Rs 11.28 lakh. The price of MG Astor Super CVT Automatic is Rs 12.68 lakh. MG Astor Smart MT is priced at Rs 12.98 Lakh, Smart CVT Rs 14.18 Lakh and Smart Turbo 6AT at Rs 15.88 Lakh. The price of the top of the line MG Astor Sharp ranges from Rs 13.98 lakh for the manual to Rs 16.78 lakh for the turbo petrol AT.
In terms of design, the silhouette of the Astor is similar to that of the ZS EV but the subtle changes in styling are noticeable. For instance, the hexagonal front grille with a celestial pattern accentuates the clear distinction between both the SUVs by sleek LED headlamps on each side. The dual-tone diamond-cut 17-inch alloy wheels are the most attractive highlight in the side profile.
The rear end looks more contemporary with highlights like wraparound LED taillights, a roof-mounted spoiler and faux twin exhaust tips. In terms of dimensions, the Astor measures 4,323 mm in length, 1,809 mm in width and 1,650 mm in height. The SUV offers a wheelbase of 2,585 and a ground clearance of close to 200 mm. These numbers translate to a generous space inside the cabin as well.
Powertrain Options and Variants
Coming to its powertrain details, MG will offer the Astor with two engine options – a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit or a 1.35-litre turbo petrol mill. The former puts out 109 bhp and 145 Nm of peak torque while it is mated to a six-speed manual or an 8-step CVT automatic gearbox.
The latter pumps out 138 bhp and 220 Nm of peak torque and is exclusively available with a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. It has a long list of rivals which include Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushak and Volkswagen Taigun.
