Upcoming Citroen C3 will compete with cars in the price range of Rs 5-10 lakh
Taking forward its plans for the Indian market, Citroen today unveiled its second product for India. It is a sub-4 meter car, inspired by SUV design. It is named C3. For India, the Citroen C3 will be manufactured at the company’s plant in India. Thanks to the high localization levels, it will come at a very aggressive price point at launch.
Citroen isn’t calling its C3 an SUV, but they said it is SUV inspired. It will compete with cars in the range of Rs 5-10 lakh. This includes many cars. From Maruti Swift, Ignis, Mahindra KUV100 to sub 4 meter SUV like Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Tata Nexon etc.
Citroen C3 Design and Features
Like other cars in this space, the Citroen C3 will have a sporty look and feel. Compared to the C5 Aircross, the C3 has a completely different profile. Some of the key features include large trapezoidal headlamps, trendy DRLs in unique design motif, prominent mesh grille and sleek air dams. The fog lamp casing has been outlined in a contrasting shade, which adds to the sporty character.
The Citroen C3 gets thick body cladding all around. Prominent body side moldings along with contrasting styling bits enhance its side profile. The SUV also sports dual-tone machined alloy wheels. At the rear, the SUV gets a large bumper with skid plates in a metallic shade. The Citroen logo is in black color at the tailgate. Tail lamps are wraparound units, with a significant portion extending to the side of the car.
The C3 is expected to be available in single-tone and dual-tone color options. The dual-tone variant will have blacked-out A, B and C pillars. The contrast shade will be used on the styling elements on the roof, rear view mirrors and body side moldings. In addition to this, Citroen will offer customization options that will allow buyers to personalize their car. Official accessories will also be on offer.
Citroen C3 Engine
The Citroen C3 could be powered by a 1.2L petrol engine. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and automatic. It is not certain whether a diesel motor will be offered with the C3. One interesting thing about the C3 is that it will be the first car in India to get a flex-fuel engine.
It will be able to use petrol as well as ethanol-blended fuel. At a time when petrol prices are rising steadily, SUVs with flex-fuel engines may get preference from customers. The flex-fuel engine makes the C3 future-proof. As may be recalled, the government has outlined a plan to achieve 10% ethanol blending by 2022 and double it by 2030.
The positive aspect is that the customers in this segment are ready to try something new. This is evident with other new products such as the Venue, Sonnet, Nissan Magnite and Renault Keger. With its unique design and sporty look, the Citroen C3 could emerge as another bestseller in the segment.
While the A5 Aircross established Citroen as a premium car brand in the Indian market, the C3 will have the added responsibility of driving higher sales volumes. This section already feels congested, which makes it difficult to break through. To make it more attractive for the customers, Citroen may launch the C3 at a decent starting price which is very aggressive. The company is using a high level of localization for C3, which has helped bring down production costs.
