The issue of sexual harassment is not new in Bollywood, but for some time the stars have started talking openly about it. In such a situation, now the sister of actor Vir Das and National Award winning documentary filmmaker Trisha Das told that she too has been a victim of sexual abuse many times.
Sexual abuse happened many times…
Recently in a conversation with IANS, Trisha said, ‘Earlier when I used to work as a documentary filmmaker, I was a victim of sexual abuse many times. But it was quite a common practice in the workplace and women used to look for other women to comfort and protect each other.
There was no social media then.
Trisha further added, ‘There was no social media back then where one could share their story, so there was no accountability either. It was also common to remain silent after suffering such harassment. The men had no fear of the consequences. The constant conversation about sexual harassment on social media and the workplace and the #MeToo movement has brought about a change. It is giving empowerment to women, though I hope this movement is not politicised.

Those people are not famous…
On the other hand, why did Trisha not speak through #MeToo… On this question, Trisha said, ‘Those people are not so famous, I am not in touch with any of them. I don’t even know where they are now? At that time there was no social media or even WhatsApp, which I would have been in touch with.
