The name of Bollywood actress Richa Chadha is one of those stars who have made a big place for themselves in cinema on their own. Bebak and Bindass Richa will soon be seen in Voot’s web series Candy. In such a situation, from marriage with Ali Fazal to trolls, Richa had a special conversation with Hindustan and answered many questions.
Made her Bollywood debut in 2008 with ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’… When did you think of becoming an actress?
After finishing my studies in 2008, I was working in a play with Barry John and after that audition I got ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’. Then the time between 2008-11 I spent traveling between Delhi and Mumbai. When I got ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ from Tukke, I felt that I can survive in this city, become an actress. My parents were also convinced that yes it can.
You said that you got ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ from Tukke, what is the story behind it?
Actually it’s because I didn’t audition. Me, Nawazuddin bhai, Manoj Bajpayee, Piyush Mishra and Huma Qureshi were chosen by Anurag Kashyap himself. I got the role because many actresses had refused for this role. I worked very hard for this character and the film proved to be a hit. Otherwise this journey would have been very difficult for me.
You don’t have any filmy background, no Bollywood godfather… Have you ever faced nepotism?
Not because of star kid… see the rest of the children who are born in the film industry… you can’t hate them just because their parents are stars. It is enough in our country that the son of a doctor will become a doctor, so why not in the industry. So I don’t have any such grudge against anyone. The rest of the media is also largely responsible for this. However, an effort can definitely be made that if Star Kids is being launched, then newcomers also get a chance.
You speak your words with impunity, due to which many times there are trolls on social media? How do you manage?
What to manage trolls, who do not exist, what to say to them. Half of them are fake, half are bots. The remaining two-three are those of two rupali. It doesn’t make any sense, it doesn’t have any effect on our life, so who will take them seriously.
What was the main reason for saying yes to ‘Candy’?
Kandy is a very interesting story, which is the story of a hill station. There is a boarding school, where children of different classes go. Then some incident happens there, the villagers think that there is some ghost. I really liked the subtext of it and I also wanted to do a thriller.
Is there any character that you want to play from your heart?
Of course, there are a lot of films and characters that I want to do. Like I want to do comedy and action. I think now is the time, the test of audience is changing and the industry is also changing. See, there are nine rasas, out of which you can do only two-three, you get typecast, which every actor’s heart wants to break.
When is Shaadi Wali giving good news, fans are waiting very eagerly?
Good news of marriage….when it happens, it will be available. How to plan about it, things change every few days. In such a situation, it is very difficult to plan something, call all the relatives, have double vaccination for everyone.
Apart from ‘Candy’, what are your upcoming projects?
‘Six Success’… on Hotstar, then ‘Inside Edge’ which will come on Amazon Prime and also ‘Abhi To Party Shuru Hui Hai’, which will release on Netflix.
